Post October 7th

October 7th was a gut-wrenching day for Israel and Jewish people around the world. The rise in antisemitism that followed was an attack on our collective freedom. The fight continues to this day, and Hillel at FIU has worked hard from day one to educate the masses, fight antisemitism all while lifting the Jewish spirit and building our strong community here in Miami. We brought a Nova survivor to campus three weeks after Oct 7th. We screened the raw footage twice one campus for students, faculty and staff. We hosted multiple vigils and brought hostage families and IDF reservists into the classroom. A year after Oct 7th we planted 1,200 Israeli flags into the ground in the shape of a giant flag on the lawns in the center of campus. Through it all, we had tough conversations, created Jewish pride, and hugged our Israeli students extra tight.
